Mike Damasin was appointed Assistant Vice President of Environment, Health and Safety for Cargill in April 2011. He joined Cargill’s Corporate Environment, Health and Safety function in 1990, and has held a variety of leadership roles with responsibilities for the development of global EHS leadership training, health and safety management systems, common risk assessment methodologies, and compliance auditing. These programs span Cargill’s diverse portfolio that includes food, agriculture, financial and industrial products, and the company’s 155,000 employees across more than 1,400 locations in 70 countries.
In his current role, Mike is the strategic health and safety leader at Cargill, providing leadership to Cargill on topics ranging from workplace safety to pandemic preparedness and response programs, including Cargill’s global response to COVID-19. In recent years, he has led the development of Cargill’s Focus on LIFE program – the company’s global strategy to eliminate fatalities and achieve a zero incident culture. A critical component of this strategy is the development of robust control programs and the integration of Human and Organizational Performance principles into Cargill’s health and safety management systems.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Health and Safety from Ferris State University, and a Master of Science degree in Occupational Health from the University of Michigan. Mike is a Certified Industrial Hygienist.
Prior to joining Cargill, Mike held several health and safety positions with Chrysler and Federal-Mogul Corporation.
