EHS and Sustainability Software & Technology Abstracts

2022 EHS Software, Innovation & Technology Showcase
April 5 - 7, 2022 • Fort Worth, TX

2022 EHS and Sustainability Software and Technology Showcase: Call for Abstracts Now Open!

About the Conference

NAEM’s software and technology conference has been a unique event in the EHS and Sustainability marketplace since 2001. The objective of this event is to showcase a variety of EHS and Sustainability software applications and data management practices in one venue to support EHS and Sustainability Managers in their needs assessments, selection, implementation, and on-going use of tools that will enhance the strength of their programs.

2022 Agenda: Session Formats & Desired Topics

Session Formats

We are seeking abstracts for two types of session formats described in detail below. Please note, both formats require a client to present or moderate with a consultant or software vendor partner.

Format 1: user Demonstrations
User demonstrations are a behind the scenes look at specific software platforms. These sessions should look at how EHS&S leaders implemented a software tool to address a management challenge and should include both information about the challenge as well as how the tool is being used to address the challenge. These sessions should include a demonstration of the software tool and require a client/end user to be the presenter of the demonstration while staff from your company can be in the room to answer technical questions that the presenter cannot answer.

TECH22 Abstracts Software Demo
TECH22 Abstracts Data Management Strategy
format 2: Data Management Strategy Sessions
These sessions should focus on a broad software or data management challenge. Sessions can have a consultant or software company representative as a speaker, but they must be accompanied by a client. These topics cannot be specific to one software; they must aim to address common EHS&S data management, collection and reporting challenges. To this end, preference will be given to abstracts that are software agnostic.

Desired Topics

We are seeking abstracts that address Sustainability, ESG and EHS data management and software tools. We will organize the conference around tracks that will broadly address:
  1. ESG Data Collection and Reporting
  2. Carbon Accounting and Product Stewardship
  3. EHS Risk Management and Compliance

Detailed List of Challenges We are Seeking to Address

Please click here to request a detailed list of challenges we are seeking to address, organized by topical area. We highly recommend reviewing this list and explicitly tying your submission to one or more of these challenges or work areas.

Additional Notes about desired topics and focus areas

NAEM is looking for proposals that also address:
  1. How to create data and reporting infrastructure to respond to the urgency of ESG issues
  2. Case studies from companies that have built integration between their EHS&S systems with other business systems (like HR, ERM or Operations) as well as between different EHS&S systems within their own department
  3. Case studies that showcase how emerging technologies are being used to mitigate risk, unlock new data insights, increase operational efficiency (examples include: faster permitting, creating comprehensive training programs, conducting ergonomic assessments, reducing SIFs, etc.)

Presenter Eligibility and Expectations

  • Presentations must include an in-house EHS/Sustainability manager(s) who work directly with the application and can show a case study of the management strategies
    • Any demonstrations of software tools and/or technologies must be done by the client
  • Client presenters do not have to be NAEM members
  • All sessions are 45 minutes including audience Q&A
  • Subject matter experts (SMEs) from software vendor companies are allowed to moderate as long as the SME(s) has direct experience with implementing the data management solution
  • The software vendors are expected to act as moderators, introduce the session and the speaker and support the client speaker and answer general questions about the application during the Q&A portion at the end of the session
  • NAEM conferences stress sharing both best practices as well as lessons learned. Presenters will be expected to speak frankly not only about their successes, but also about the challenges they met and their suggestions for how to make implementation more successful

Selection Process

  • Abstract submissions are due by December 8, 2021
  • NAEM will aim to select abstracts that:
    • Align with the topic and format guidelines conveyed above
    • Showcase a variety of the leading software systems in the environmental, health, safety and sustainability marketplace
    • Have been fully implemented and offer sample reporting data and/or examples of improvements or outcomes that the software is enabling
    • Showcase emerging technologies for improving EHS&S performance
  • Abstracts will be reviewed, and submitters will be notified the week of December 20, 2021
