This week the National Association for Environmental Management (NAEM) published its first report from the EHS & Sustainability Software Ratings Project, a new research initiative to evaluate user satisfaction with commercial software systems.

The initial report, which is based on survey responses from 140 individual respondents, includes reviews of 11 leading software products based on core satisfaction attributes such as: ease of use, speed of implementation and customer service. It also reveals the user's likelihood to recommend the software product to a peer.

NAEM Executive Director Carol Singer Neuvelt said the project is an important opportunity for users to both benchmark with their peers as well as to provide feedback to software providers.

"The software options that now support EHS and sustainability programs have become critical tools in the management of this business function and for many companies, the backbone of their management system," Ms. Neuvelt said. "With a buying decision so consequential, EHS & Sustainability leaders need better insight into the products they rely on run to their businesses."

The survey was distributed to NAEM's full membership, via third-party implementation firms and to every software company who participates in NAEM's annual EHS & Sustainability Software and Data Management Conference. Respondents were also invited to rate any company that was not readily provided on the list.

As the largest professional association for corporate environment, health and safety (EHS), and sustainability decision-makers, NAEM's benchmarking services includes a core focus on how large organizations set goals, measure performance and manage their programs.

This latest addition to NAEM's research portfolio will offer a quantitative benchmark of how software systems are performing from the user's perspective. The inaugural rating report will be expanded upon regularly as more companies participate and are rated by their customers. The updated results will be published on NAEM's website.
