- What is your top priority of 2024?
My top priority is to understand the slow attendance recovery of certain NAEM programs, like the annual EHS & Sustainability Management Forum, following the COVID-19 pandemic and how we can better promote the association and its benefits. We rely heavily on the repeat attendance from our “core” membership, but NAEM is unique among its professional association peers. It is truly a “for the members, by the members” organization, and our membership may not fully appreciate the value and benefits of NAEM programming. How we market, the programs we offer, and the perceived benefits need to be further evaluated. - What topics would you like to see covered by NAEM programming in 2024?
The ongoing impact of “worker shortage” is being seen across all industries, including the trades. There is a direct correlation on the ability of a business to establish a winning culture, drive performance improvement, and meet regulatory requirements (such as training). There may be some companies that are successfully navigating through this issue.
A second topic is psychosocial well being. Prominent now in parts of Europe and Australia, it is a complex topic that crosses safety, health, human resources, and employment law. Most EHS professional are ill-prepared to deal with this issue, but could end up being the owners of it from a policy and risk assessment perspective in some businesses. - What is your favorite member benefit of NAEM (Quick Polls, Monthly Member Drop-In, Corporate Benchmarking, Webinars, Networking)?
NAEM is unique among its professional association peers. It is truly a “for the members, by the members” organization. Thus, the networking opportunities are my favorite NAEM benefit. I have made many important connections through NAEM, both for my own professional development as well as to gather ideas and share best practices. Several innovative ideas and best practices are also highlighted through the many virtual and live events, benchmarking, and quick polls.
