In advance of her upcoming OPEX25 session, “Leading Global EHS Strategy Alignment & Integration,” Emily Barron, Global Environmental Manager at Applied Materials, shares three key steps EHS professionals can take to align their work with corporate goals while still meeting regulatory requirements.

1. Understand the Business

Effective EHS professionals understand the goals and tasks of the business groups they work within, the overall goals of the company, and how EHS objectives connect to those goals. As EHS professionals, we must communicate clearly the risk associated with what we do and how it can affect overall costs.

For instance, safety events can drive up costs, and high emissions can lead to process downtime or money out of our stacks. It’s important to highlight how proactive EHS compliance and sustainability goals can actually improve business bottom lines.

2. Manage through Change

Being in EHS, many of us have experienced the challenges of changing culture and getting leadership buy-in. During our upcoming session, we’ll share our firsthand experiences and real-world examples around what it means to drive strategy and change culture.

3. Stay Current

Meeting like-minded people at conferences like OPEX25 is always energizing. It’s incredibly helpful to get fresh ideas and strategies that we can take back to our day-to-days. We truly can help each other by sharing knowledge and tips to drive conversations and performance.

Join Emily and other EHS and Sustainability leaders from around the country at OPEX25 to share real-world experiences, proven strategies, and key lessons learned to drive EHS performance in your organization. >> View full program
