Carol Singer Neuvelt to Keynote MEC Symposium
Speaking on "The Evolving Role of the EHS Manager & the Incorporation of Sustainability," Neuvelt will trace the history of the profession and will identify the core 21st century skills EHS professionals will need to effectively meet the challenge of sustainability. "From the executive suite to the facility floor, EHS professionals are responsible for translating sustainability from aspiration to operation," Neuvelt said. "To be effective in this role, they need more than just technical competency: They need the systemic thinking and communications skills to explain these technical processes across departments, functions and geographic borders."
Now in its 20th year, the annual summit for mid-level EHS professionals from Midwest-area manufacturing companies addresses issues such as regulatory compliance, creating a positive EHS culture, strengthening safety practices and managing sustainability programs.
Neuvelt's long-term perspective and insights into corporate sustainability best practices have been featured in a variety of publications, including The Chicago Tribune, the Bureau of National Affairs, Environmental Leader and NAEM's Green Tie blog. She is a former White House staffer and served as the Deputy Director for the US EPA Office of Public Liaison under Administrator William Reilly. In addition to her responsibilities for managing the agency's interaction with external stakeholders, Neuvelt was integral to the creation and implementation of EPA's national Pollution Prevention Awards program.
