Takeda’s Deborah Donovan Receives NAEM’s Leadership in Action Award
Ms. Donovan was one of eight corporate EHS&S leaders recognized at NAEM’s Excellence Awards ceremony which took place during the largest annual gathering for environment, health, and safety, and sustainability decision-makers—NAEM’s 28th annual EHS&S Management Forum.
At Takeda, Ms. Donovan has global responsibility for the development and implementation of environment, health and safety programs, processes and governance mechanisms. She is also a key contributor for the company’s sustainability strategy. Ms. Donovan “is an extremely effective and tireless champion for EHS&S initiatives and programs. Her passion for the safety of our employees and processes at Takeda is a key reason why we wanted to nominate her for this award,” Thomas Wozniewski, Global Manufacturing & Supply Officer at Takeda.
NAEM is recognizing Ms. Donovan’s impact as demonstrated by numerous initiatives, which include her leadership and advocacy in gaining executive buy-in and commitment to secure financial and headcount resources to embark on a multi-year, multi-million dollar, cross-functional initiative to develop a world-class EHS IMS platform. The platform enables more than 8,000 individual users to track events previous managed by 125 EHS roles. In addition, Ms. Donovan established and implemented the Serious Injury, Impact, and Fatality (SIF) prevention program to target SIF potential exposures. In one year, adoption grew exponentially from 30 pSIFs reported to over 300 pSIFS reported, investigated and CAPAs put in place.
“Debbie is the embodiment of what an EHS leader should be,” wrote ERM’s Brian Henry and Mark Clark in a letter endorsing Donovan for the award. “She is a value creator with the ability to create transformational changes in EHS culture and processes. She is fearless, approachable and visionary.”
