Anastasia O'Rourke is a Principal at DEKRA Sustainability and Performance Excellence, advising clients on sustainable operations, metrics, standards, products, supply chain and purchasing. Dr. O'Rourke is an experienced researcher, consultant and creator of databases, having worked in Sweden, France the U.S. and Australia, authoring several pioneering reports on venture capital and cleantech, on creating environmental indicators for better management decision making, on socially responsible investment, on ecolabels and on sustainable purchasing. Prior to DEKRA, Dr O'Rourke co-founded Big Room Inc a venture-backed company working on the .eco top level domain (www.doteco.org) and www.ecolabelindex.com and advised clients including US GSA, US EPA, ANSI, UNEP, The Crabon Trust, The Cleantech Group and FedEx Corporation.
Dr. O'Rourke is the co-chair of the Sustainable Purchasing Leadership Council, a non-profit multi-stakeholder organization whose mission is to support and recognize sustainable purchasing leadership www.purchasingcouncil.org. She also serves on the Advisory Committee of the UNEP Sustainable Public Purchasing Initiative and authored the recent State of Sustainable Public Procurement global review for UNEP. With DEKRA she is leading the creation of the Product Attribute Tracker, a database of sustainable procurement guidelines for product categories found worldwide.
Anastasia has a Ph.D. from Yale University Environmental Management) with a dissertation about cleantech venture capital. She also holds a M.Sc. (Industrial Environmental Management) from Lund University in Sweden and a B.A. (Hons 1st Class and University Medal) from Sydney University, Australia. She currently lives in New Haven CT with her husband and two sons.
