Jim Bero served as BASF Corporation's Senior Vice President of Environment, Health, Safety and Security from July, 2004 until his retirement in October, 2014.
Jim joined BASF as a member of their Personnel Development Program in 1976. His BASF manufacturing experience included assignments in inorganic chemicals, urethanes, automotive resins/coatings and plant utilities. Over the course of his manufacturing career, he has held the positions of production supervisor, production engineer, operations manager, plant manager, and vice president of operations. His experience also includes the position of Corporate Capital Planning Manager and leadership roles on several restructuring and three post-merger business integration teams.
In his EHS role, Jim was responsible for developing and implementing BASF's rigorous health, safety, environmental and security standards across the company. He has served as chairman of BASF's Manufacturing Community Steering Committee, Incident Support / Crisis Management Team, North American Sustainability Council and Industry Issues Management team and the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care ® Committee. Jim was a member of the ACC executive task force that oversaw the 2009-2013 strategic review of the Responsible Care® standard. He has also served on the Corporate Advisory Board of Wharton's Initiative for Global Environmental Leadership and was an active member of the International Council of Chemical Association's Responsible Care ® Leadership Group and the Conference Board's Chief EHS Officers Panel.
Jim graduated in 1976 from West Virginia University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and received an M.B.A. from Louisiana State University in 1997. In recognition of his career achievements, Jim was inducted into WVU's Chemical Engineering Academy in 2016.
