Jennifer Bailey
Director of Corporate Safety
Alliant Energy
A respected industry leader and business strategist in the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) sector, Jennifer Bailey is known for her transformational approach to the vision for a safe and conscientious corporate work culture. Throughout her career, she has served as a thought leader to revolutionize old-school thinking around serious injury and fatality (SIF) prevention, leveraging progressive methodologies from global critical thinkers, including Dr. Todd Conklin, Corrie Pitzer, and Dr. Martha Bidez.
Jennifer pioneered the conception, development, and management of corporate safety and health programs at American Cast Iron Pipe Company as their Director of Safety and Health. Under her leadership, the company saw 100% employee participation, 75% reduction in serious injuries, and a complete elimination of fatalities. She also led the company initiative to achieve OSHA Voluntary Protection Program Star Status. Serving as the key contact between corporate leadership and regulatory agencies, she was appointed by US Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao, to serve as the Management Representative on the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Safety and Health (NACOSH) in 2007.
Jennifer went on to a dual-function leadership role for Southern Company, directing a large-scale matrixed team across four states in corporate health and safety strategy and operations for both Southern Company Services and Alabama Power Company. It was there that Jennifer brought a new mindset for safety and SIF prevention with modern safety and health frameworks, including the company-wide implementation of ANSI/ASSP Z10.0 and the enterprise’s first safety culture survey. She was also selected to serve on the influential Board of Advisors for the Construction Safety Research Alliance (CSRA).
Jennifer was then tapped to transform safety and health operations as Director of Safety and Health at Xcel Energy Services, evangelizing a culture of learning at all leadership levels. She developed SIF prevention programs to reposition the enterprise’s focus to a collaborative team learning model prioritizing causal factors with holistic corrective actions. For her strong business impact, she was awarded the Committee and Construction Safety Research Alliance (CRSA) Safety in Leadership Award in 2019 and was recognized by Denver Business Journal’s Top Women in Energy in 2020.
Jennifer recently joined Alliant Energy as the Director of Corporate Safety, where she continues to lead company-wide strategy for safety and health operations and implement modernized SIF prevention initiatives.
Jennifer has consistently advocated for EHS community initiatives throughout her career through participation on prominent boards and committees. She recently served on Construction Safety Research Alliance (CSRA) Board of Advisors. For CSRA, Jennifer recently co-chaired the Unique Precursors of SIF as well as served on the Tyranny of TRIR working groups.
