Mitchell (Mitch) Mitgang serves as Director, Environment, Safety, Health & Security for ITT Corporation based at the corporate headquarters in White Plains, New York. Mr. Mitgang has over 25 years experience leading and working with global
industrial companies on a broad spectrum of regulatory compliance, risk management and safety engineering issues.
Mr. Mitgang is a member of the Corporate Responsibility department and has functional accountability overseeing 60 Environment, Safety, Health & Security managers responsible for more than 9,500 employees worldwide in five continents. In his current role, Mr. Mitgang is responsible for developing and directing long term ESH&S strategies that optimize work and drive sustainable value creation including enterprise systems for regulatory compliance, training, internal audit, performance indicators, management systems, incident investigation/reporting, and security/business continuity plans. Mr. Mitgang is also responsible property risk control and ESH due diligence for business transactions including M&A.
The Corporate Responsibility department is a management center of excellence delivering corporate governance initiatives designed to leverage - and embed - best business practices across the organization, minimize cost and enhance risk mitigation.
Practice areas in Corporate Responsibility include Anti-Corruption, Government Affairs, Ethics and Compliance, Environment, Safety, Health and Security, Global Trade Programs, and Environmental Affairs. Each of these disciplines coordinates with business unit leaders and staff to implement focused, LEAN-based value-add strategies enterprise-wide.
Mitchell's experience with Environment, Safety, Health & Security began with Liberty Mutual Insurance. He has held various senior management and executive positions with risk management, underwriting, logistics and global ESH&S consulting companies. His most recent position prior to joining ITT was Assistance Director for Aon Global Risk Consulting responsible for technical service administration to fortune 500 Companies worldwide, including ITT Industries.
Over his tenure, Mr. Mitgang established and implemented safety and regulatory systems which provided for greater than 50% reduction in loss frequency, vast improvement in casualty experience modifiers and significant return of premium under a pre-funded deductible programs. Mitchell's systematic approach to risk control fosters a successful culture of safety that permeates throughout an organization using a variety of techniques for communicating safety and monitoring performance with leading indicators.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Brooklyn College, with Science minor and NYS Earth Science Teacher Qualification. Mitchell is a BEAC Certified Professional Environmental Auditor, NATMI Certified Safety Director, NAEM Board of Regents member and Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers. He is an experienced public speaker and Published Author for professional ESH&S trade associations.
